25 for 25: A Biophilic December. Day 01: What The School of Biophilia Is Really About

At this time of year, we’re surrounded by stuff, deadlines, expectations, and the pressure to “wrap everything up before Christmas” But at The School of Biophilia, we believe December is the perfect time to do the opposite: to pause, reconnect, and reorient our attention toward what is alive, meaningful and sustaining.

The School of Biophilia was created around a simple but powerful idea: when people reconnect with nature, their ability to learn, create, design and lead changes. Biophilia isn’t a trend. It’s an evidence-led framework for everyone that support wellbeing, creativity, cognition and emotional regulation.

Our work brings nature-centred approaches into classrooms, studios, organisations and communities. We teach educators how to embed biophilia into daily learning. We help architects and designers integrate nature-led decision-making into space creation. And we support leaders who want to shift culture away from burnout and toward belonging.

This December series is our way of offering a gentle, daily practice, 25 micro-actions that encourage a subtle shift in awareness. Each action is grounded in research, yet simple enough to fold into daily life. Because biophilia isn’t something you “add on.” It’s something you begin to see.

As we move through the month, you’ll learn how biophilia connects to neuroscience, environmental psychology, pedagogy and regenerative design. And you’ll see how these ideas form the foundation of the workshops we’re launching in the new year.

For today, begin simply by remembering why this school exists: to reconnect people, places and learning with the living world.
